Calum Stronach

About Calum

Raised on the rugged northern coast of Scotland, Calum Stronach developed an early fascination with the ocean and the natural world. Inspired by the underwater storytelling of natural history filmmakers, he pursued a career combining marine science, exploration and visual storytelling.

After completing a degree in Applied Marine Biology, Calum became a commercial diver, building more than a decade of experience across demanding underwater environments including offshore operations, salvage, renewables, marine surveys and expedition diving.

His ability to operate safely in complex and highly unpredictable environments led him to become Field Diving Officer with the British Antarctic Survey, supporting scientific operations in Antarctica.

It was in the polar environment where Calum’s journey into natural history filmmaking began.

Working alongside leading production teams, he has supported major wildlife productions including National Geographic’s Epic Adventures and Animals Up Close with Bertie Gregory, Netflix’s Our Planet II, BBC Natural History Unit productions and Disney+’s Pole to Pole with Will Smith.

His experience combines three worlds rarely found together:

Scientific understanding
Commercial diving discipline
Natural history storytelling

Whether working beneath Antarctic sea ice, supporting wildlife filming operations or helping crews navigate complex marine environments, Calum brings calm decision-making, technical expertise and practical field experience to every production.

When ambitious stories require difficult locations, challenging conditions and experienced people — Calum helps make them possible.
